Cluster Overview - Planetary Health Cluster

The Planetary Health Cluster takes a multi-faceted approach when tackling the issues of climate change and planetary health. Planetary health, a recent multi-dimensional health construct similar to One Health, is concerned with understanding the interconnectedness of human health and the health of the planet’s natural systems. Climate change presents both a challenge and an opportunity to consider planetary health as a key framework in addressing global challenges.

Using the planetary health lens, the sister projects address issues including air, soil and water pollution, anti-microbial resistance, diarrhal, vector borne and zoonotic diseases with an emphasis on generating comprehensive solutions and influencing policy across both green and blue environments. The planetary health cluster is composed of five EU funded projects which will work collaboratively to achieve its goals.

The projects conduct research not only be carried out in European countries and cities but in parts of Africa (Ghana and South Africa), iin Asia (e.g. Philippines) and North America (e.g. US and Canada). With this in mind, the Planetary Health Cluster will be able to provide an evidence-based approach to policy development which will inform key stakeholders decision-making and implementation of actions which will promote healthy global living environments.
